Post 1...Introduction

"One must cultivate self-belief in one’s abilities and credentials"

My name is Seidy, I am originally from Costa Rica, came to US in 1984 at the age of 17. In English my name spells Sadie. I born 13 months after my older sister, so my mom didn’t have a name for me; she decided to name me after the nurse that took care of her during her labor.
I look up on internet the meaning of the name Sadie and ironically enough, it describes a lot of who I am, it comes to show that things in life happens for a reason…I am a believer that the universe has its own energy and it brings together everything in life that meant to be.
People with my name have a deep inner desire for a stable, loving family or community, and a need to work with others and to be appreciated. We also tend to be quiet, cooperative, considerate, and sympathetic to others, adaptable, balanced and sometimes shy. Sadie’s are trustworthy, respecting the confidences of others, and make excellent diplomats, mediators and partners. We are often very intuitive, like detail and order, and often find change worrisome; may sometimes feel insecure or restless.
My biggest strength is perseverance, if I believe in something or someone I won’t give up. My weakness is integrity; I believe that everything has two sides, and that both sides have to be analyzed carefully.  Sometimes I be may be perceived by others as me being an indecisive individual, but in reality, I am weighting both options prior to make any important judgment or decision.
I learned most of the English grammar by attending an English Course at Orlando Tech back 1985; the oral practice came from hanging out with friends.  Later I realized that to advance in life I needed to get a degree. I graduated with an AAS in Business Administration from a community college in 1990. This was the same year my only son Thomas born. I wasn’t able to go back to school, 2 years later got divorced and life went on. As a single mom, I concentrate my efforts on raising my son the best way I could.
In 2011, 21 years later, my son moves out and began his journey as a Student at UCF. A year later, in 2012 I decided to go back to school, it was time for me to fulfill my goals. First went to Valencia to convert my AAS degree into an AA; then enrolled at UCF in 2013 and began my own journey as an undergraduate student at the age of 46.
I wasn’t sure which direction to take, and even though I had an AA in Business I knew deep inside that I didn’t wanted to pursue a BA in Business. When I came across the Interdisciplinary Major at UCF, I realized it was molded for me; an interdisciplinary studies degree is a program that allows students to tailor their degree base in their interests, students can choose from three concentrations in the professional and/or liberal arts areas of study.
I was looking for a career changed. A major in interdisciplinary studies provides me with a range of choices within different disciplines and a broad combination among them that would help me accomplish my goals, personally and professionally.  It is designed to providing academic flexibility and variety on different disciplines.
The Major contains two areas of study, I choose for the two areas, Humanities and Behavior Social Science. As the Minor I chosen, ESOL Education, plus through time I had added two more Minors, Education and LOTE and one certificate TEFL. Expertise that I will be able to incorporate into my life, at any situation, professional and/or personal; and that it will also provide the edge to increase my marketability in the job market of my choice. All of this with one purpose in mind, which is my main goal, to teach English as a second language overseas, plus probably also incorporates Spanish teaching as well, as it is my first language.
